France Maintains 5th Place in UEFA Rankings Despite Mixed European Performance
This past week, UEFA updated its rankings following the European week, and despite only two wins in seven matches, France has maintained its strong position.
The momentum of French football on the European stage faced a slowdown this week. Following a particularly successful period before the international break, French clubs managed just two victories out of seven matches in continental competitions. Nonetheless, France remains firmly in fifth place in the UEFA rankings.
In the Champions League, Paris Saint-Germain shone with a remarkable victory over Bayer Leverkusen in Germany (7-2). Meanwhile, Olympique de Marseille suffered a narrow defeat (2-1) against Sporting, leaving them with regrets, while AS Monaco battled to a frustrating draw against Tottenham (0-0) on Wednesday.
In the Europa League, Olympique Lyonnais secured a solid win over Basel (2-0), but both Lille and Nice stumbled, losing to PAOK (4-3) and Celta Vigo (2-1), respectively. In the Conference League, Strasbourg had to settle for a draw against Poland’s Jagiellonia Bialystok (1-1).
France Holds on to Fifth in UEFA Rankings
These results allowed France to add 6.071 points to its tally, bringing its cumulative total to 71.248 points over the last five seasons. The gap with Germany (78.402), currently in fourth place, remains significant, and LFP president Vincent Labrune aims to elevate France among the top four European nations.
A key highlight comes from Belgium, which did not capitalize on France’s downturn as its clubs faltered, allowing France to slightly strengthen its lead. Meanwhile, the Netherlands (63.700) continues to close in from behind.
