France Closes Gap to Germany in UEFA Rankings After Strong European Performance
After another week of European competitions, UEFA has updated its rankings, with France closing the gap on Germany but remaining in fifth place. This week, Ligue 1 clubs achieved four wins, one draw, and two losses.
France continues to make strides in the UEFA index, strengthening its fifth position. Following a generally positive week in European competitions, the gap with immediate challengers has widened. The Netherlands, Portugal, and Belgium are now significantly distanced, providing some breathing room for French clubs in their pursuit of European spots.
Victories from Monaco, Lyon, and Strasbourg have proven crucial. Additionally, Marseille made a significant leap with an away win, while PSG secured an important point in Bilbao during the Champions League. However, the defeats of Lille and Nice somewhat dampened the overall results. With these outcomes, France has now accumulated 10.214 points for the 2025-2026 season.
The gap narrows, but Germany stays ahead of France
However, Ligue 1 remains far behind fourth place, which is still held by Germany. Bundesliga clubs are also having a solid season in Europe, maintaining their lead. Nevertheless, France gained a slight advantage this week, earning 0.714 points compared to Germany’s 0.458.
In the Bundesliga, Bayern, Stuttgart, and Freiburg secured wins, but several clubs faced draws or losses (Frankfurt, Mainz). The lead for the Germans remains substantial; however, France is showing that it can continue to chip away at the deficit week after week. Germany leads France in the UEFA index with 82.777 points compared to 75.391 for French clubs. For the current season, France has a total of 10.214 points, slightly trailing behind Germany’s 11.600 points.
