Ferran Torres Joins PSG History with Debut Double Against Rennes
Paris, August 2026 – In an electrifying start to his career at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Ferran Torres made a significant impact by scoring twice during his first match against Rennes. This impressive display not only helped PSG secure a 2-2 draw after being two goals down but also etched Torres’ name in the club’s storied history.
Joining the ranks of legends
Before Torres, only a select few players had achieved the feat of scoring a brace in their debut match for PSG. These included Patrick Mboma and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, both legends in their own right.
- Patrick Mboma: On August 24, 1994, the Cameroonian forward scored twice against Váci FC Samsung in the Champions League preliminaries, securing a 2-1 victory for PSG in Hungary.
- Zlatan Ibrahimovic: On August 11, 2012, the Swedish icon also netted a brace in his first official match against Lorient, salvaging a 2-2 draw with a last-minute penalty.
A memorable debut for Torres
Fast forward to today, Ferran Torres has become the third player in PSG’s history to achieve such a debut feat. This achievement is even more remarkable as his goals, assisted by Fabián Ruiz, were pivotal in avoiding a loss for the Parisians.
After the match, Torres, a World Cup champion from 2026, expressed mixed emotions about the result. “We wanted the win, but it’s crucial to come away with a point. Playing my first match in front of the Parisian supporters was special, and it will be even more thrilling at the Parc des Princes. The team is fantastic, filled with great people and amazing players who have welcomed me warmly.”
