PSG’s Pursuit to Purchase Parc des Princes Resurfaces Under New Paris Mayor
New Paris mayor reignites Parc des Princes sale discussions
Paris, March 28, 2026 – In a surprising turn of events, newly elected Paris Mayor Emmanuel Grégoire has opened the door to discussions regarding the potential sale of the Parc des Princes to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). This development comes as a shift from the stance of his predecessor, Anne Hidalgo, who was firmly against the sale.
PSG’s president takes swift action
Nasser-Al-Khelaïfi, the president of PSG, wasted no time in reaching out to Grégoire following his election victory. The Qatari businessman reportedly initiated contact to discuss the future of the iconic stadium, as revealed in an interview with Le Parisien. Grégoire expressed a willingness to explore the club’s future at the Parc des Princes, stating, «I wish for us to build the future of the Parc des Princes together in Paris, which will be on the agenda of the exceptional Paris Council meeting in mid-April.»
Expansion plans and alternatives
The leadership at PSG is keen on acquiring the Porte de Saint-Cloud stadium to embark on expansion projects, potentially increasing its capacity by 10,000 seats. However, an alternative option on the table is the construction of a new, larger stadium in the suburbs, boasting a minimum of 60,000 seats along with commercial facilities.
Potential financial negotiations
Should the Paris Council favor the sale of the stadium to QSI, PSG’s owning fund, it’s anticipated that the city will aim for substantial financial gain from the transaction. Paris faces financial challenges, and QSI is expected to have the resources to invest heavily.
Honoring PSG’s achievements
In the midst of these discussions, Grégoire has plans to honor PSG by proposing a special recognition for the team following their Champions League victory. This gesture signifies the newly elected mayor’s intention to foster a positive relationship with the club’s management.
