Donnarumma Reveals Haaland’s Influence in His Move from PSG to Manchester City
Donnarumma’s move to Manchester City: Haaland’s influence
In a surprising transfer move, Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma left Paris Saint-Germain for Manchester City, marking the last day of the summer transfer window. The switch came after he lost his starting position under PSG’s new manager, Luis Enrique, who had signed Lucas Chevalier from Lille.
Donnarumma builds a special bond with Haaland.
Building a friendship with Haaland
Since Donnarumma’s arrival at City, he has formed a close friendship with star striker Erling Haaland. In an interview with the Daily Mail, the Italian international spoke about their relationship: “We hit it off right away. We always had mutual respect, even before we met. We often joke about facing each other in national teams. They are in a better place than us at the moment, but there are two matches left. It will be challenging to play against him, both as a player and a friend.”
Comparing Haaland and Mbappé
Donnarumma also weighed in on the ongoing debate between Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappé. He commented, “I think Erling has the most powerful shot. Being left-footed makes him different from Kylian (Mbappé). Both are tough to play against. It’s a tough choice, but I’d prefer Erling on my team.”
Haaland’s role in Donnarumma’s decision
Speaking to Sky Sports, Donnarumma shared how Haaland influenced his move to City. “He’s a great guy, very calm, and loves being with his family. We connected instantly and had a natural synergy. Even when playing against each other, we stayed in touch and talked after games.”
“When the opportunity to come here arose, he reached out. He was persistent about me joining, and I’m grateful for that. He’s a great friend, and I’m lucky to play alongside him because facing him is incredibly tough. He’s an extraordinary player!”
