Dembélé Critiques Spark Tension with Luis Enrique After PSG’s Loss to Rennes
Following the defeat against Stade Rennais (3-1), Ousmane Dembélé has openly criticized the mindset of some teammates. Shortly after, Luis Enrique addressed his striker’s striking remarks.
After a convincing win against Olympique de Marseille (5-0), hopes were high for Paris Saint-Germain. Dembélé had even confidently asserted: “You will see, PSG is back.” However, just a week later, his tone dramatically shifted. Following the loss to Rennes, he expressed concerns about his team’s attitude in an interview with Ligue 1 +: “We need to play for the club instead of thinking about ourselves.“
This statement sparked reactions, including within the club itself. In a press conference, Luis Enrique voiced his irritation regarding Dembélé’s comments. “The players’ statements at the end of the match carry no weight. None at all,” he declared.
“I am responsible for the team”
Luis Enrique further clarified his position: “I will never allow any player to be above the club. It’s clear. The person responsible for the team is me. I will not allow any player to think they are more important than the club. Not me, nor the sporting director, nor the president, nor the club. So, these statements are worthless.“
This isn’t the first instance of tension between Luis Enrique and Dembélé. Earlier in the season, the French international allegedly expressed frustration over the lack of playing time after returning from injury.
