Deco Confirms FC Barcelona’s Recruitment Strategy Inspired by Paris Saint-Germain

FC Barcelona is changing its recruitment strategy. Deco has confirmed the club’s intention to draw inspiration from Paris Saint-Germain’s approach and possibly their playing system.

Just a few years ago, this idea would have seemed unimaginable. The sporting director of FC Barcelona, Deco, has openly expressed his desire to somewhat emulate Paris Saint-Germain. In an interview with Mundo Deportivo, he responded to inquiries regarding the recruitment of a new striker. For the Portuguese director, PSG has demonstrated that it is feasible to win titles without a traditional striker, as evidenced in 2025.

“There is no need to be obsessed with signing a new striker. It might be possible to play without a conventional forward. Ferran can operate as a false number nine… PSG won the Champions League without a main striker,” Deco stated.

Julian Alvarez as Barcelona’s Dream Target

Despite these statements, the internal reality appears to differ. Deco and his recruitment team are reportedly eyeing several profiles, including Julian Alvarez. The Argentine international is identified as Joan Laporta’s ultimate dream to enhance Barcelona’s attack.

However, the hefty price tag, estimated at over 100 million euros by Atlético de Madrid, remains a significant hurdle. Nevertheless, “The Spider” might not refuse a move to Catalonia in the summer of 2026. It may take some effort to make this dream a reality.
