Paris Saint-Germain Faces Chelsea in Champions League: A Tough Path Ahead
Paris Saint-Germain braces for a Champions League showdown against Chelsea in the Round of 16. The capital club faces a challenging path that could lead them to the final.
After a hard-fought victory over AS Monaco in the Champions League qualifiers (5-4), PSG is set for the knockout stages, with their opponent confirmed as Chelsea. This matchup will be a rematch of the Club World Cup final, where the Blues triumphed 3-0 last summer. Aside from this thrilling encounter, Paris is also aware of its potential rivals leading up to the final.
The Ideal Draw for PSG: Galatasaray Followed by Atalanta
If PSG progresses past Chelsea, they will face either Galatasaray or Liverpool in the quarter-finals. While the Turks put on a strong performance against Juventus, this draw appears more manageable compared to facing the resurgent English giants. In the semi-finals, Paris could meet one of the heavyweights: Manchester City, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, or Atalanta Bergamasca. It’s worth noting that Atalanta would present the easiest challenge, especially since PSG defeated them 4-0 last September.
The Worst-Case Scenario: Liverpool Followed by Bayern Munich
To conquer the Champions League, PSG will once again have to contend with the Premier League. Their journey begins with Chelsea, followed by the possibility of facing Liverpool and former PSG player Hugo Ekitike, who will undoubtedly be eager to showcase his talent against his old club.
Finally, in the semi-finals, the Parisians will face a selection of elite teams. However, the most daunting prospect remains Bayern Munich, a club that has historically been a tough opponent for PSG, and currently, the Bavarians are operating at peak performance.
