Christophe Dugarry Criticizes PSG Players: A Call for Higher Standards
Paris, November 2024 – Former French international, Christophe Dugarry, has expressed strong criticism towards the players of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), despite their leading position in the French championship.
Unimpressed by PSG’s current standing
Even though PSG leads the French league after one-third of the season, this does not impress Dugarry. As an ex-footballer turned consultant, he believes that the team no longer resembles a top European club.
Questioning the long-term project
While many suggest that Paris is developing a long-term project, Dugarry is surprised by the leniency shown towards Luis Enrique’s squad. In his opinion, PSG’s current Champions League ranking (25th out of 36) speaks volumes about their performance level.
“The issue is PSG’s standard”
“Hiding behind Ligue 1’s level to justify your underperformance is a small-minded excuse… The real issue is their standard! The Champions League demands excellence, which they lack due to mental weaknesses and the immaturity of some players,” Dugarry stated on RMC Sport this Monday.
Echoed sentiments from Jérôme Rothen
Jérôme Rothen, another former PSG player, shares a similar viewpoint. Despite his ties to the club, he is not sparing in his critique of Marquinhos and his teammates. “This year, French clubs are performing well in the Champions League, except for PSG, which indicates that the league is competitive and attractive,” Rothen noted.
