Champions League Standings Predictions: Who Will Secure Top 8 and Playoff Spots?
With only two matchdays left in January, the standings remain wide open.
Opta
has predicted the final standings. Which teams will secure a spot in the top 8 for a direct advance to the knockout stages? Who will land in the top 24 to face playoffs?
French clubs are still seeking their first perfect 3/3 in this season’s Champions League. Monaco struggled but managed a narrow victory over Galatasaray (1-0) thanks to a goal from Folarin Balogun, keeping their hopes alive for the playoffs. Meanwhile, Olympique de Marseille traveled to face Union Saint-Gilloise aiming for a crucial win to boost their qualification chances. Benefiting from VAR intervention that disallowed two goals for the Belgians, Marseille secured a 3-2 win and now sits at 16th place.
Paris Saint-Germain visited San Mamès with the intent to secure a win that would nearly guarantee their spot in the top 8. However, the resilient Basques held the reigning Champions League champions to a 0-0 draw. Athletic Bilbao remains in a precarious position with just five points and slim hopes of qualification, while PSG holds third place but is only one point ahead of the ninth-place team, which is the first playoff contender.
Opta’s Predicted Final Standings for the Champions League Group Stage After 6 Matchdays
According to Opta, all three French clubs are expected to qualify for the next stage of the competition. Both OM and ASM are predicted to claim the last two spots.
