Bradley Barcola: Rising Star at PSG Filling Mbappé’s Void
In recent weeks, Bradley Barcola has taken his game to new heights with the French national team and, more recently, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). His impressive performance is highlighted by three goals in just two Ligue 1 matches since the season resumed. While Kylian Mbappé has departed for Real Madrid, Barcola is stepping up to fill the void left by the star forward. Didier Deschamps has called him back to the national squad for the September international break, even addressing him directly in a press conference.
Filling the Void Left by Mbappé
Kylian Mbappé’s exit has undoubtedly left a gap at PSG that has not been fully filled. Although 19-year-old Désiré Doué is a promising attacking midfielder capable of playing on the left wing, he is unlikely to secure an undisputed starting position. Towards the end of last season, Barcola consistently played on the left and delivered performances strong enough to earn him a spot on the national team for the Euro. Is he ready to step into the shoes of PSG’s all-time leading scorer, who netted 256 goals? Didier Deschamps believes that Barcola has the potential to excel with the national team, provided he continues to make an impact at PSG by both scoring and assisting.
Deschamps: “He Has the Potential”
“He has been a fundamental player, that’s undeniable. He started matches at the Euro. He has the potential. When I selected him for the Euro, it was because I knew he could contribute. It’s now up to him to find consistency this season, whether he is a starter or not. It’s vital to be decisive in scoring and assisting. He possesses those qualities, and it’s his responsibility to keep developing and maintaining them,” said the French national coach in a recent press conference.
Barcola Is Growing, Not Yet Replacing Mbappé
According to Daniel Riolo, while Bradley Barcola has not yet replaced Kylian Mbappé at PSG, he is certainly making strides. The RMC columnist stated on the After Foot show, “I really like what I’ve seen in the first two matches of PSG this season, both in terms of team play and tactical ideas. Barcola hasn’t replaced Mbappé just yet, but he has improved and is looking comfortable.”
