Barcola Drops “Bambi” Nickname After Criticism from His Inner Circle
Bradley Barcola Leaves "Bambi" Nickname Behind: A Turning Point for the PSG Forward
In a recent announcement, Bradley Barcola, the forward for Paris Saint-Germain, is leaving behind the nickname "Bambi" that once followed him. This change comes after feedback from Barcola’s circle, who found the moniker undesirable.
The nickname and its origin
Barcola earned the nickname "Bambi" from Daniel Riolo, a well-known sports journalist, following a Champions League match against Newcastle during the previous season. Riolo, who often used the nickname in jest, recently declared its retirement on RMC radio.
Riolo’s decision to drop the nickname
Riolo shared his reasons for ending the use of the nickname: “I didn’t want to hurt anyone. It turns out his entourage didn’t appreciate it, and I was officially informed, so it’s time to stop. If a nickname causes distress, it’s better to let it go." Additionally, Riolo mentioned that many are now realizing that Désiré Doué’s performance surpasses Barcola’s.
Barcola’s current standing
This season has been challenging for Barcola, who has yet to score in the Champions League. In the domestic league, he was leading the scorers’ chart for several weeks, but now Lille’s Jonathan David has taken the top spot with eleven goals, one more than Barcola.
As Barcola moves forward, shedding the "Bambi" label marks not just a change in nickname but perhaps a shift in how he wishes to be perceived both on and off the field.
