Adrien Rabiot Set to Join OM After Leaving Juventus on Free Transfer
This summer, the future of Adrien Rabiot has sparked considerable speculation in the transfer market. With the midfielder available on a free transfer, rumors circulated about his next destination. To the surprise of many, it appears he is set to join Olympique de Marseille (OM), despite his previous tenure at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). Rabiot, who is 29 years old, did not prioritize a return to the capital club.
The announcement took everyone by surprise on Sunday evening. Out of the blue, OM confirmed that they had reached a preliminary agreement with Adrien Rabiot. The midfielder is expected to sign a contract for the next two seasons, marking his return to Ligue 1 after departing from PSG in 2019.
Rabiot not prioritizing a return to PSG
As a free agent, Adrien Rabiot attracted interest from multiple clubs. His name was even linked with a possible return to PSG. However, during a gathering with the French national team, the soon-to-be OM player made it clear that a return to Paris was not on his agenda. “Since I left for Juve, every summer my name is associated with PSG. It’s very flattering. However, it remains complicated given how things ended. In football, you must not close any doors, but it will not be my priority,” he stated.
Rabiot takes a pay cut to join OM
Despite being a free agent, Adrien Rabiot commanded a significant salary. At Juventus, he earned €9 million per year. However, in a bid to join OM, he has reportedly made a financial sacrifice. According to Daniel Riolo, the 29-year-old has halved his salary. Nevertheless, he is expected to receive a substantial signing bonus, as the Marseille club will not need to pay a transfer fee.
