Adrien Rabiot Set to Join OM After Juventus, PSG Passes on Him
After leaving Juventus, Adrien Rabiot found himself without a club this summer but is now poised to join Marseille. While various possibilities were speculated, including a return to PSG, coach Luis Enrique reportedly did not consider Rabiot as a viable option, despite the potential financial benefits.
Marseille Seizes the Opportunity
Despite having completed eleven signings during the summer transfer window, Pablo Longoria, the sporting director of Marseille, is still hungry for talent. Rabiot is set to commit to the Phocaean club, having remained unattached since his contract with Juventus expired. This move represents a significant coup for Marseille, acquiring a 29-year-old international midfielder without paying a transfer fee. Meanwhile, PSG was also on the lookout for midfield reinforcements but did not pursue their former player.
Luis Enrique’s Clear Vision
As reported by Le Parisien, Luis Enrique had made bolstering the midfield a priority this summer, with a specific profile in mind: a technically gifted player capable of contributing significantly to the game. This led to the signing of Joao Neves for €70 million, including bonuses, as Enrique was not interested in acquiring a player who did not meet his expectations.
No Communication Between Rabiot and PSG
According to Le Parisien, there has been no contact between PSG and Rabiot’s camp, largely due to Luis Enrique’s specific requirements. Additionally, the complicated relationship between the French international and his former club, which saw him sidelined during the latter part of the 2018/19 season, has hindered any potential reconciliation.
